Did I miss something?! I mean, I don't follow politics, and I wouldn't consider myself a Weiner fan, but this recent controversy over the mayoral candidate is flat out stupid. As far as I can tell, Anthony Weiner got caught (again) texting nude photos of himself to women he had been chatting with (for a period of time) online. This is news worthy?
Refresh my memory. Since when is it illegal to send naked pictures of oneself over the wire? Oh, wait, were there children in the pictures? Receiving the pictures? No? Oh, okay. So then he must be imposing his sexy pictures on unwilling ladies? No? Um, okay ... so, exactly what has he done that every other hot-blooded American male hasn't done or thought about doing? And since when is said activity illegal?
Sometimes, when engaging with those inflicted with the monogamy-is-right mindset, I get the feeling that their disapproval stems from more than just cultural deviation. In other words, they're jealous. They wish polyamory was an option for them. Maybe they feel that time has passed them by, or that their current partner would "never go for it". But they look at me, in all my slutty happiness, and think, if only ... At first sight, they are intrigued by the thought of poly, then, in the very next breath they're running down the (obvious) gamut of poly critiques.
What's the rub? Well, if I'm not allowed to be a happy slut, then no one else should be allowed either. I spent my life suffering needlessly. The least you can do is suffer in the same way. I didn't get to be happy in my life-long relationship(s), why should you get to sleep with whomever you want and get away with it?
Suggestion: are Weiner's critics merely jealous that he indulges (shamelessly) in his own sexual fantasies, while they've had to deny themselves in the name of decency? And, yes, I want to use the word "jealous", because jealous is: Why does she get a bigger piece of chocolate cake? and Why doesn't he have as many grey hairs as I do? Jealous is I'd rather see you brought down to my level so we can both suffer, than watch you enjoy something I don't have, even if I don't really want it.
How many men, I wonder, deny themselves opportunities to indulge their (legal, mind you) sexual fantasies because they have been convinced by the morally superior (and usually hypocritical) that said fantasies are "wrong"? How many do engage in said explicit activities but fear discovery, especially by a spouse, because their spouse has been indoctrinated that "good husbands" don't engage in said activity? So, why should Weiner be allowed to do what ever he wants and just get away with it? Politicians can't be sexual! They must be chaste, monogamous, and, let's just say it, asexual. Is that really so much to ask?
Or maybe, Weiner's critics still live in the delusional world where monogamous love lasts for a lifetime and is completely satisfying. I keep forgetting that some people believe this fairytale. Sigh.
My mother actually says she doesn't understand why Weiner's wife stays with him, and stands by him. HELLO! That's an easy one: because she wants to. Is this really even a discussion topic? Again, with the happily-ever-after. So, he likes showing off his body! What is the big fucking deal? He's not even sleeping with these other women (reportedly). And even if he were, how is it anyone else's business but his and his wife? She accepts him and his behavior (at least publicly).

And who is this chick with the purple lipstick going on about, I thought he had changed, and He's lying to everyone? Sydney Leathers says she felt manipulated by him? Are you kidding? She develops a relationship of some kind with this man who has a known "issue" (because it was such a scandal the first time). Then she's shocked when he sends her naked photos and runs straight to the media! And we're supposed to believe that Leathers is the one being manipulated here.
Of course if Weiner (or Leathers) was caught gazing at Playboy or pursuing through Hustler, well that's an acceptable form of sexual expression. And just when I thought our culture had progressed a smidgen.
Those are all well thought out and logical statements which have no place in the moral majority/political world. Did you not know that politics is a religious based endevor? If you don't follow the Bible, believe in the Christian God and cater to the Church then you have no hope for holding a Government office. Barney Frank's days are numbered now that he has been outed as an Atheist. Hell even Gay members are now more accepted in political office than sexual heathens.
ReplyDeleteNow that my sarcasm is vented. This whole thing comes down to the illusion of how prim and proper this country "supposedly" is. It's taken years to get soft swears on TV past the censors and nipples are just the sign of the devil's temptation. Which is extreme bullshit in my opinion. Our country is going through the growing pains that most countries have gone through, the problem is that in our case, the Corporations are the ones the back the winners here. Weiner probably has other things that he stands for that goes against the grain in the political forum. So this is just another smear campaign.
ReplyDeleteRemember, the NEWS these days are not the journalist that we had back in the 50's or 60's. All news agencies are corporate owned and push only the information that they want you to have. For instance, the Bradley Manning verdict of not guilty if aiding the enemy was give less than 5 minutes air time. He whistleblown illegal activities that are happening at the time of the Iraq war but the corporations that are making money off of that war does not want that information to get out or have the exposure that it should because if the public knows, that runs the risk that a bigger investigation will happen and they will have to answer for the crimes. However, that won't happen. The NEWS is not news anymore. It is a spoon fed substitution of reality that is directed and carefully plotted out for the country to see.
Hell most of my news comes from alternate sources such as techdirt.com,lifehacker.com, or even overseas venues like theguardian.uk which currently posts the Edward Snowden leaks. The Guardian has even posted news from former President Jimmy Carter about the state of our country in relevance to the NSA leaks. The story never saw any form of print from any News agency within our borders.
ReplyDeleteThat in itself is a bad sign that we are not seeing the whole picture of the world around us. Poltics and policies are being dictated by Representatives that are supposed to be an extention of the people. Money has erased that connection and the players are no more than people that are scouted and signed on like common sports players. Paid and bought for their looks, style and demeanor. Weiner may be a good candidate and may actually be the right person for the job the People needs. Yet when the greed outweighs actual morality, it is very hard to have what is right for the People to be realized.
Purple lipsticked girl and all the others that were placed in front of the camera were probably well paid for their time. They got their 15 minutes and whatever signing bonus for going on the air and stating what happened and coached to say certain key phrases that will become sound bytes for the "News" agencies to use over and over.
Until we all wake up from the slumber we are in and take a moment to realize that the country our forefathers wanted for us to live in has slowly been dissolved one point at a time. Simply because we have let the Government run our lives instead of us running our own. The Constitution is a wonderful thing, but it is seen as a barrier to those who truly want control. Take this new Global Terrorist Threat, it is funny and convenient that it exists in a time when the programs that are imfringing upon the rights and privacies of the People are being called to serious question and how NOTHING has been proven that the type of information gathering that is going on has had ANY effect or result of stopping any terrorist act or potential one. I find it to be another distraction tactic, one that has been used during the entire W. Bush administration for every speech uttered by those people. If 9/11 wasn't used at least once to remind the people of the fear that they were "protecting" us from, it wasn't an official speech. Fear is a motivating emotion, one that people are just getting used to again. If terrorist win because we are afraid, what is thr real Terrorist threat to our country? I say it is the News industry, the corporations behind them and whereever the money comes and leads to. Terror exists in the information that is givem or not given. The mind has a way of filling in the blanks, so if you know how to write and present a story correctly then it does not matter what was actually said. The People will read between the lines and make assumptions, so when people are called accountable for this mass panic, they can just say, "Well we did not say that, we said this word for word."
The point of my ramble is to not believe everything that is being broadcast or said. Manipulation is rife in our little section of the world and I don't see any stopping of it any time soon. Be strong and vigilant so one day when the sun shines again, you will be able to recognize it for what it is, not what someone tells you it should be.
